PRANAYANA - (Breath Control)

Breath is essential to life. It is the first thing we do when we are born and the last thing we do when we leave. Learning to breathe consciously and with awareness can be a valuable tool in helping to restore balance in the mind and body.

The benefits of a regular practice of simple, deep breathing include:

  • Reduced anxiety and depression

  • Lower/stabilized blood pressure

  • Increased energy levels

  • Muscle relaxation

  • Decreased feelings of stress and overwhelm

KIDS & FAMILY

Yoga is a discipline that can lead kids on the path toward a calm and balanced mind, as well as help them build a strong and flexible body. Introducing your children to yoga at an early age can help them learn healthy lifestyle habits and set the foundation for a fit future.  In our fun environment, children play yoga by imitating animals and nature, and by using creative expression, games, music, art, and storytelling.

Yoga and breathing techniques can help children handle the pressures associated with peers, workload and making the grade. Get your family practice started. Children will improve:

• Physical Strength and Flexibility
• Concentration, Focus and Attention
• Inner Strength and Body Awareness
• Confidence and Self-esteem
• Relaxation and Self-control
• A Feeling of Well-being and Respect for Others
• Love for One's Self, Inside and Out

Teachings

Lela

(Janaki Devi)

I started practicing Yoga in 1984 when I gave birth to my first child. I was looking for a gentle and effective exercise practice that could help me improve flexibility, strength and balance. Yoga gave me the tools I needed to understand and relate to my new body and bought me the union between mind and body that I was looking for.

After many years of practice, I decided to undergo the necessary training to become a yoga instructor. I am a certified yoga teacher with 500 hours training in yoga, pranayama and guided meditation techniques through the "Institute of Holistic Yoga - Satyananda Ashram" in Miami, FL.

I love working with people all ages. And I have several years of experience working with children and families.

My classes are designed for all levels of students and include:

  • a thorough warm up

  • cranial-sacral self-massage

  • awareness of the energy centers (chakras)

  • asanas that empower and strengthen, and improve alignment and flexibility

  • inversions and counter-poses

  • pranayama (breathing exercises)

  • yoga nidra (psychic sleep) and other meditative techniques
